The I2E2 Energy Research Centre is a government sponsored Technology Centre, established to facilitate research which will have a direct impact on industry. The I2E2 research focus is on energy efficiency improvements in factories, plant, equipment and buildings. The current research agenda focuses on compressed air systems characterisation, use and solution integration; appropriate work environments and HVAC systems. The innovations will enable the Irish manufacturing industry to improve competitiveness via breakthroughs in energy efficiency and cost reduction.

The Janssen Biologics facility in Ringaskeddy, Cork was named winner of the ISPE ‘Facility of the Year’ Award in the Sustainability Category.
Located on a 100 acre site, the facility incorporates fermentation and purification processes and has a process development centre to facilitate the transfer of technology and provide for the development of new production processes coming through clinical trial stages.

The Janssen Pharmaceutical facility at Little Island is a key supplier of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) in the Janssen supply chain. APIs from the site are supplied for formulation into products for the treatment of a range of conditions, including psychotic, gastrointestinal and fungal disorders. The site, which employs around 230 people, is part of Janssen Supply Chain (Ireland) which recently won the Engineers Ireland CPD Company of the Year Award for 2012.

Vistakon Ireland is located in Limerick and produces the Acuvue range of contact lenses, the leading contact lens product in the world. Their Limerick site uses the most advanced technology in the industry and they now employ over 900 people directly. Using highly automated production processes, Vistakon produces daily disposable contact lenses while utilizing state of the art technologies such as injection moulding, robotics, vision systems and sterilization systems.
Vistakon Ireland was established in 1995 in the National Technology Park close to the University of Limerick. The facility was originally fitted with six advanced production lines to manufacture one daily disposable contact lens for the European and Japanese markets. Since then the site has expanded and there are now over 36 production lines manufacturing over 8 million one-day, fortnightly, monthly and cosmetic contact lenses per day which are shipped worldwide.
